A £1.9 million project to construct a new four storey building for St Wilfrid’s Centre in Sheffield, providing twenty residential flats for the Diocese of Hallam, including additional communal areas on the ground floor, completing external works and installing drainage.

The 53 week project has created self-contained one bedroom flats which will be used by St Wilfrid’s to provide temporary accommodation to vulnerable people and those without a home, with the aim of improving their quality of life and assisting them in finding permanent accommodation.

The building is designed to be in keeping with the local environment and features large windows to provide lots of natural light. Each floor is made up of precast concrete slabs placed on the blockwork walls, with an external brickwork finish. All flats were partitioned and fitted out, including completing mechanical and electrical works, and fitting kitchens and bathrooms. The development also includes an entrance, kerbs, car park and landscaping.

Where possible, Henry Boot Construction has used local firms with connections to St Wilfrid’s Centre. Energy efficient electrical goods and suitable thermal and acoustic materials have been used throughout, to help reduce costs for the client.

To support St Wilfrid’s, Henry Boot Construction has organised and attended fundraising events, including the Three Yorkshire Peaks Challenge, donating to food banks and attending the recent BeVox fundraising evening.

“I would like to thank Adam, Tom, Laurence, Gary and everyone on site for such a magnificent job. They were all stars in making our dream come true and a pleasure to work with. Henry Boot will always be part of home at St Wilfrid’s, which I am sure will become a flagship project for Sheffield. Cannot speak too highly of Adam and the team.”
