Through the Rotherham Construction Partnership, Henry Boot Construction were contracted to design and build a 64-bed single storey and two storey residential care home with day care facilities, for the elderly in Dinnington.

Through collaboration with the Rotherham Construction Partnership and Henry Boot’s specialist partners, an off-site prefabricated solution utilising ‘pod’ sections was used to form the four residential pavilions, all connected by a central day care centre.

The 16 bedroom pods were then surrounded by a central timber frame to support the roof structure. The design of the building also incorporates sustainable features, including green sedum pavilion roofs and storm attenuation tanks that will minimise the risk of flooding.

The project was completed with high specification and low maintenance landscaping. The plants within the courtyard extend into a meadow scene, encouraging local wildlife and providing an eye-catching and relaxing outdoor space for residents.

By using innovative approaches during the project, the construction period was reduced by eight weeks, resulting in a significant reduction to the programme.

The scheme provided work experience opportunities for two job match students, five work placement apprentices and two employee trainees in quantity surveying and planning.

The success of the scheme was demonstrated at the CIOB Celebrating Construction in South Yorkshire Awards, where it won the Projects Over £5 Million category.

“I found Henry Boot very accommodating, nothing was too much trouble. They kept a senior member of staff based at Davies Court organising and dealing with any problems. Ken was an asset to Henry Boot; the aer care was second to none. He supported and guided us all the way. The workers he organised to complete work were also a pleasure to work with.”
