Manor Works is a high quality 1,560m2 community enterprise centre that incorporates offices, workshops, flexible co-working spaces and conference rooms. The £2.7million project was constructed as a special purpose regeneration vehicle, providing residents of the Manor Estate and Sheffield access to entrepreneurship opportunities.

The building is a hybrid fair-faced concrete and timber frame construction, with perforated aluminium rain screen cladding that opens to reveal full-length glazed folding doors. Internally, the building has a rustic feel with power floated concrete floors and walls clad in birch boarding with exposed timbers.

Henry Boot was involved in the project two years prior to works starting and offered extensive value engineering savings, enabling the project to go ahead despite budgetary constraints.

The local community were involved throughout the 52 week project and were invited to open day sessions to discuss their views. This lead to some changes to the overall scheme, including creating a secure footpath for residents and providing replacement boundary fencing to houses adjoining the scheme.

The completed building helps to create employment opportunities and delivers educational activities for local people and small businesses in their own community space, encouraging investment in the local area and its people.

The scheme won the regional RIBA Yorkshire Award and the RIBA Yorkshire Building of the Year Award.

“We are delighted that the efforts of everyone involved in the delivery of the Manor Works, a new Community Enterprise Hub at the Alison Business Centre, has been recognised with it being named as the RIBA Yorkshire Building of the Year Award. Particularly, those in Henry Boot Construction’s team showed a resolute commitment to delivering quality in all aspects of construction.”
