The Fox Valley project is a master redevelopment of the former 28 acre Outokumpu steelworks site in Stocksbridge, which brings a new commercial heart to the area and will also create up to 900 jobs for the local community.

Work on the project began with the demolition of Tata garages, Outokumpu offices and Tata Warehouse, followed by a year of land remediation works. Running alongside this was the construction of the new Tata Warehouse and outfall 21, a new oil skimmer facility within Tata’s works.

Several existing buildings were refurbished and converted into office spaces, along with the construction of two new office blocks. Once construction of the main retail area was completed, infrastructure works were added, including a new T-junction and roundabout.

The development is designed to be in-keeping with the area’s industrial heritage and incorporates 32 retail units, café and restaurant facilities, office space and new housing. Externally, there is a 600 space customer car park with fountain and outdoor seating areas, as well as pedestrian links to the town centre.

Henry Boot has hosted work experience students and trainees throughout the project, and Meg Munn MP took part in a site tour focussing on women in the construction industry. The team’s community involvement on the project is reflected in the positive feedback received from local residents and businesses.

The Fox Valley development was officially opened by guest of honour Joanna Lumley OBE at an event which saw huge crowds gather to mark the launch of the first stores in the prestigious retail destination.

“Henry Boot has been exemplary in their approach from early contractor involvement through the planning stage, sequence and phasing of the work. They have added value to the project through build ability, redesign and time management.”
