£8m redevelopment of the iconic Co-Operative Building in Nottingham City Centre, to create a prestigious mixed-use development including a new 60000 sq ft casino, 16500 sq ft of retail space, two floors of office accommodation and 18 apartments.

The project involved retention of the existing historic façade, while demolition of the entire internal structure was undertaken to create a ‘blank canvas’ for the building. New concrete foundations and a steel frame structure were installed prior to remodelling the internal floors.

The site offered very limited external working and delivery space, due to city centre pedestrian and traffic requirements, and careful planning was needed at all times to co-ordinate deliveries and the external refurbishment works.

The Axis won the Property Week ‘Mixed Use Development of the Year’ award, and ‘Best Commercial Development’ at the Nottingham Evening Post Property Awards.

"We are very proud of The Axis... The whole scheme is a credit to our team and to all the consultants who worked with us."

James Greenway, Regional Manager
