Henry Boot Construction negotiated a £8 million JCT 2011 design and build contract with Bifrangi, a specialist hot forging company based in the UK and Italy. Bifrangi required a new Manufacturing, Research and Development Centre, with a 32,000 tonne percussion screw press, laboratories, training rooms, offices and a workshop.

Major infrastructure and civils works were carried out over 120 weeks, including a 1,200m2 continuous concrete pour, which was completed over 36 hours and was attended by specialists from the Concrete Society. The 16m x 5m deep reinforced concrete well that houses the 70 tonne Schuler Pressen is unique in the UK. This was also the largest project of its kind in Europe and one of only two such projects in the world.

Through integrated design team leadership, and with collaboration through the Sharepoint system, Henry Boot Construction successfully developed the client’s design. At tender stage, Henry Boot fully integrated its key supply chain members
to design the bespoke, innovative foundation platform for the press.

Additional works were awarded to Henry Boot due to the client’s satisfaction with the performance of the site team, increasing the
overall value of the project.

“Staff at all levels of our organisation found Henry Boot Construction’s site-based project management team knowledgeable, approachable and responsive. They dealt very efficiently with the inevitable challenges that accompany a project of this complexity. We found Henry Boot Construction to be customer focused and very professional, with a very positive and welcome ‘can do’ attitude ingrained throughout the company.”
