Installing vital facilities for BIADS – 14/05/2018

In partnership with sub-contractors on the Better Barnsley project, we have been providing assistance to Barnsley Independent Alzheimer’s and Dementia Support (BIADS), by creating a dedicated facility for disabled access.

BIADS originally applied to the Better Barnsley Bond for funding for first floor toilet facilities to be installed at their dedicated centre on Dean Street, on the outskirts of the town centre. The charity was aware of their duty of care to protect and safeguard those vulnerable adults who visit the centre, and felt that an additional toilet upstairs had become a necessity.

Project Manager Ryan O’Loughlin, who sits on the Better Barnsley Bond panel, felt that this would be a valuable community project and requested the assistance of sub-contractors who are currently working on the Barnsley redevelopment project.

Once the appropriate building regulations approval was granted, the team set to work, creating the facility within one of the upstairs rooms, with the sanitary ware donated by Twyfords.

At the recent launch of the BIADS ‘Here Today, Gone Tomorrow’ appeal, Chief Officer, Linda Pattison, thanked Henry Boot Construction, HE Barnes, Global and Hi-Tec for all of their hard work and support. As a registered charity which receives no statutory funding, BIADS rely on fundraising efforts, and monies from grants and trusts to keep the dementia support centre open to members.
