Banner Plant saves The Skills Village – 13/02/2018

Earlier this week, Banner Plant Limited very kindly donated a submersible pump to The Skills Village in Barnsley. Melissa Gallimore, Operations Manager for The Skills Village, had previously contacted Henry Boot Construction for assistance as the amount of surface water on the site following heavy rainfall was impeding the students’ training. Melissa explained that, because the ground is flat but dips slightly in the middle, the water was creating a health & safety risk, especially in freezing conditions when the area became like an ice rink. Although several large holes had been drilled to try to drain the area, the problem hadn’t been resolved.

Giles Boot, Managing Director of Banner Plant Limited, who supplies the site cabins to The Skills Village, heard of their predicament and decided to take action. Giles, who personally delivered the submersible pump to site, said: “We’re delighted to be able to help out, to enable the youngsters to get the most out of their training opportunities here at The Skills Village”.

The pump, appropriately called a Puddlepal, sucks up water to a depth of 1mm via an internal hose. Within just a few minutes, the site was back in action and from now on ensures the students will be able to work outdoors in all weathers.
