With works well underway at Brookfield Campus, students from Leicester College visited the project on 7 November to experience a live construction site for the first time. The day aimed to link their theoretical studies with practical work on site.

The students were given a full tour by our Site Managers Jack Duncan and Nick Mobbs who explained how the project is progressing. Students also asked questions about their individual roles and experiences working with Henry Boot Construction.

Sandra Rieger, who organised the visit as part of Leicester Council’s Constructing Leicester initiative, said: “Through the Employment Hub, we are able to offer students the opportunity to go on site visits and to access work experience placements on live projects. This helps the students to become better prepared and ready to start work once they have their qualification.”

Nick Allen from Leicester College added: “Site tours provide a valuable opportunity for our students to gain an understanding of the construction industry and the benefits that it brings.”

The work at Brookfield started in July and will see a comprehensive renovation of the site, creating a new home for the University’s School of Business and on completion in 2019, will generate a variety of teaching and social learning spaces.
