For the fourth year running, a team of Henry Boot Construction employees participated in the annual Turner & Townsend Football Tournament on Thursday 28 September.

The 5 a-side football tournament was held at St George’s Park in Sheffield, one of the first Football Association Park Life projects opened in the Country.

The teams that took part in the tournament were a mix of developers, consultants and contractor organisations as well as a strong representation of local businesses.

The Henry Boot team included Tony Shaw, Richard Tingle, Adam Houlston, Alex Cairns, George Talbot, Carl Jeffrey and Mick Tomlinson. The tournament consisted of four groups, with the top two teams in each group going on to qualify for the Quarter Finals, with a knock out round leading to the semi-finals and the finals.

With 4 wins out of 5 and having finished runners up within the league format, Henry Boot went on to defeat last years’ champions NG Bailey in the quarter finals in a sudden death penalty shoot-out. The team then progressed into the finals having beaten Rider Levett Bucknall 4-1.  The team benefitted from strong organisational skills and a great teamwork ethic through which eventually helped them defeat the hosts Turner & Townsend 2-1 in a closely contested final to take the trophy.

Over £1500 was raised on the day with all donations going to the Sheffield Children’s Charity.

“The day was once again a fantastic success.  Every year the tournament has grown which means the charitable contribution continues to go up and it’s great to have the support of companies like Henry Boot Construction”

Robert Hughes – Associate Director at Turner & Townsend

“We are always keen to support local charities by participating in events like this, competing against consultants and competitors who we work alongside within the industry.  A few aching muscles were encountered on the road to victory in a competitive tournament keenly contested by 24 teams within the Yorkshire Region. We look forward to defending our title next year!”
