Leeds City Council

Wimpey High Rise

Henry Boot Construction have been awarded a contract to repair 12 “Wimpey No Fines” high rise blocks in Leeds in partnership with Leeds City Council.  The scheme consists of twelve high rise residential tower blocks, with some blocks up to 17 storeys high that require the removal of roof parapets, structural and concrete repairs.

Each tower block will require testing and surveying to ascertain the full extent of all concrete and structural repairs required.  Wall tie mapping will be undertaken to existing walls and insertion of mechanically fixed remedial wall ties to stabilise wall panels where necessary.

The removal of the top section parapets per tower is estimated to be in the region of 70tonnes per block.  The contract is to be delivered using mast climbers and bespoke fitting rigs situated on the roof.

Works are due to commence in April 2016 with a 53 week programme.

“This scheme will be a demanding programme with some challenging operations.  We are looking forward to working with Leeds City Council Environment and Housing team to jointly deliver a successful project.”
