Northern General Hospital A&E Expansion Programme Complete 26/09/13

HBC’s Eastern Division has handed over the final phase of the Accident and Emergency Expansion programme at Northern General Hospital in Sheffield.

Our eighth project under the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust framework was commissioned back in August 2012 and designed to relieve winter bed pressures and expand the A&E facilities on the site prior to being designated a major regional trauma centre.

Undertaken with the minimum of disruption, all works took place whilst the A&E department remained in operation 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Situated below the main operating theatres and emergency theatres, the areas in which HBC site teams had to work were right at the heart of this extremely busy city hospital. Close liaison and an understanding of the scheme allowed for a good working relationship with the building’s users and a successful project for both Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Henry Boot Construction.

“I was exceptionally proud to hand over the final phase of this complex project – it is a real credit to our business and the skill, expertise and integrity of everyone involved. There were no environmental or cleanliness issues and not one accident during the entire project. We received positive comments from staff or patients and all existing services were maintained at all times. It really is a job well done and a credit to the Henry Boot team.”
