A&E Expansion second phase complete – 18/03/13

Northern General CSSD Unit 14

Henry Boot Construction’s Eastern Division has just handed over the second phase of the Accident and Emergency Expansion programme at Northern General Hospital in Sheffield, on time and with zero defects.

The former CSSD (Clinical Sterile Services Department) was completely remodelled to provide office and staff changing accommodation, allowing consultants and key nursing staff to move from their existing location in Accident and Emergency Department prior to the remodelling of the Clinical Decisions Unit (CDU).

HBC started CSSD Phase 1A in early August and handed over the project at the end of November. Phase 1B, which included the remodelling of an area previously occupied by the Pharmacy Store, was handed over last Friday.

The A&E Refurbishment is a multi-phase project, and other areas underway at present include the expanded Clinical Decisions Unit and the new Trolley Bay, as well as external link corridors.

The project was secured under the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust framework, which we have been delivering schemes under since 2010.

Previous schemes on the framework have included the multi-million pound Critical Care Unit at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, the Surgical Assessment Centre at Northern General Hospital and numerous other ward refurbishments across the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust estates.

“We are pleased to announce the successful completion of the CSSD project at Northern General Hospital, the latest in a series of successful projects for our repeat-business client the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
“We look forward to the completion of the remaining phases to the complete satisfaction of our client.”
