Civils division steaming ahead with Sheffield Civils contracts – 01/11/12

Henry Boot Construction’s Civil Engineering Division has secured eight new projects for Amey under their £2bn of highways maintenance for Sheffield City Council.

The first project involved the conversion of a former testing laboratory in Ecclesfield into a new office space and hub for the delivery of the company’s major 25-year Streets Ahead Contract.

The 12-week scheme was delivered at the same time as a new salt barn on the same site, which will keep traffic flowing throughout the city in the winter period and double the city’s capacity for much-needed grit in icy periods.

Further projects that have been awarded include:

  • Jack’s Bridge - 4 week project to install a new concrete saddle over an existing masonry arch bridge
  • Bramall Lane- 9 week scheme to strengthen the existing subway wing walls on the inner side of the Bramall Lane roundabout
  • Moore Street- 9 week scheme to strengthen the existing subway wing walls on the inner side of the Moore Street roundabout
  • Smallfield Bridge- 4 week scheme to undertake the re-pointing of the barrel of this masonry arch bridge
  • Sheaf Street - 4 week scheme undertaken wholly on nights to repaint this existing bridge, together with installing new waterproofing and antiskid surfacing
  • Stannington Bridge- 10 week scheme to carry out concrete repairs to this bridge

Amey’s Streets Ahead Contract includes the improvement and ongoing maintenance of the city’s 1180 miles of road, 2050 miles of pavement, 36,000 highway trees, 480 traffic signals, 68,000 street lights, 18,000 items of street furniture and 12,700 street name plates.

“We are very pleased to announce our recent successes with Amey and look forward to helping them deliver these projects throughout the city of Sheffield. Henry Boot Construction has a strong civil engineering background and we look forward to using our expertise to deliver these much needed projects.”
