HBC supports TeenTech in Doncaster – 09/08/12

Staff from Henry Boot Construction helped promote science, technology, engineering and maths to Yorkshire’s youngsters recently, volunteering as helpers and Construction Ambassadors at the TeenTech Experience this July.

Contractors from the Efficiency North framework worked alongside Business & Education South Yorkshire, Success Doncaster, the Chamber of Commerce and other major local businesses to help deliver the inspirational event at Doncaster Racecourse.

Over 300 children attended the event, trying out a number of activities including a ‘real CSI’ with South Yorkshire Police and the chance to use the latest firefighting technology with South Yorkshire Fire Brigade.

TeenTech is the brainchild of former Tomorrow’s World TV presenter Maggie Philbin, who wanted to dispel myths about science and technology careers being considered ‘geeky’ or ‘boring’.

HBC staff also supported the event last year, which was held at Hull’s KC Stadium.

“We supported the event in Hull last year and were happy to be involved again – showing these young people about the real life application of science and technology in a fun and interactive way will help inspire the next generation of construction professionals.”
