Case Study - Jack Duncan, Trainee Manager
Jack is one of a number of trainee managers working at Henry Boot Construction. He joined us after completing his A-Levels in 2007 and went straight on to site on the Rotherham Decent Homes project, working under a Site Manager and helping to run the project on a daily basis.
He developed his skills and knowledge further by following an individually tailored development programme, including professional qualifications and construction related training. Alongside the hands-on experience, Jack also attended university, where he completed an HNC in Building Studies.
At present, he is one year off completing a Construction Management degree and is currently assisting the site manager on the Alvaston Park project in Derby. Next year, Jack is heading off on a Belgian construction exchange programme, to see what lessons can be learned and strengthen our European connections.
"I have always been fascinated by construction - the way an empty piece of land can be transformed into a thriving business or luxury accommodation. It's not easy to take the step from school to working life, but for anyone that's unsure I can confirm that this is a great industry to be involved with."
